What is InHera?
We partnered up with clinicians at CONVERGE(The Center for Innovative Research on Gender Health Equity at the University of Pittsburgh) to design a breastfeeding decision aid tool for women with cystic fibrosis. The InHera mobile app will help potential, expecting, and new moms with CF gain confidence in feeding their newborn children. It provides sufficient, organized, and up-to-date professional information about feeding newborn children for people with CF, allowing moms and caregivers to navigate the resources efficiently with minimum pressure.

Challenge and Objectives
The requirement from the client is to design a standalone interactive mobile tool that augments MyVoice CF by supporting decisions related to breastfeeding or formula for potential, expecting, or new moms with CF.

My Solution
Within six weeks of the project timeline, I completed research, ideation, UI wireframing, logo design, UI text writing, and illustration design. I successfully delivered a complete product design solution with UI design in high fidelity.

InHera Empowers CF moms to take the initiatives in their reproductive rights

Explore more about CF
InHera allows CF moms to explore more in-depth insights and cutting-edge innovation and research in healthcare about breastfeeding with CF beyond just general information.
Client Background
Our client, the Converge Center for Innovative Research on Gender Health Equity, is a university-based research center. Their FemTech Collaborative has been developing and evaluating a suite of tools focused on helping people address reproductive concerns for specific populations in clinical environments. Our work on this project will serve to augment an existing tool called MyVoice CF. This reproductive health tool provides information related to birth control, pregnancy, and parenting for people with cystic fibrosis. The tool also provides reflection activities frameworks to aid in reproductive decision-making.

Client Request
The requirement from the client is to design a standalone interactive mobile tool that augments MyVoice CF by supporting decisions related to breastfeeding or formula for potential, expecting, or new moms with CF. Key ideas and information related to feeding with breastmilk and/or formula for the app are provided by the client, based on the extensive qualitative interviews the client has done. with participants with CF.

Understand the challenge
The challenge is to collaborate with another designer and work with a client to understand requirements, present our design direction, conduct and incorporate feedback from evaluative research, and meet stated project objectives. We need to work within client constraints and leverage existing content and assets to augment an exisiting suite of tools. In addition, we need to evaluate design decisions with end users and make updates based on feedback, producing deliverables required to support the front-end development of a mobile application.
Interview Research Participants
Based on the initial round of secondary research and the client’s requirements, we developed a draft and wireframes and conducted evaluation research sessions with two CF moms participants: Abbey and Molly. During the interview sessions, we focused on learning their motivations, concerns, values, and goals from their perspectives as end users.
Design Objectives
After conducting evaluative research sessions with participants Abbey and Molly, we gathered key insights and incorporated them into our design goals. This mobile app will help potential, expecting, and new CF moms gain confidence in feeding their newborn children. It will provide sufficient, organized, and up-to-date professional information about feeding newborn children with CF, allowing CF moms and their caretakers to better understand the needs of CF moms and navigate the resources efficiently with minimum pressure.

Logo Design
Inspired by the Milky Way story of the Greek goddess Hera, we decided to name this project “InHera” with a mission to empower CF moms to choose the feeding methods that they believe would be the best for themselves. “In” represents our intention to help and encourage CF moms and their families to learn more about what’s going on inside CF mom’s bodies when making breastfeeding-related decisions. Deeply care about CF's mom’s decision deeply from inside. The logo of the InHera project is an abstract element that represents the shape of the CF mom’s chest, where CF moms feed their children with love, and where CF mom’s lungs are taken care of.
